Poison Ivy (Rhus radicans) Poison ivy is a very common vine and ground plant in many areas on Assateague. Each of the three pointed leaflets can grow to 4 inches long. In early summer, the clusters of tiny yellowish-white flowers may be seen. Later, white berries appear, and in the fall the leaves turn red. Poison ivy is found throughout the U. S. The berries are consumed by birds. The photo was taken in mid-May. |
