Picture Picture Narrow-leaved Cattail (Typha angustifolia)

The narrow-leaved cattail in found in freshwater and brackish marshes throughout the United States. The photo was taken near Swan Cove along the trail that leads from the Wildlife Loop to the main road on the refuge (map).

Early in the year, the new plants and spikes are often collected and eaten by humans. The roots are often included in the diets of geese.
